Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer adopts Legora AI firmwide

Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer has selected Legora as its firmwide, general-purpose AI platform, expanding its tools for drafting, document work and client collaboration.

Legora will be rolled out across the business in phases. As part of the deployment, the firm also plans to adopt Legora's client portal for direct client engagement and for sharing files and documents.

Legora is positioned as an "intelligent legal colleague". The platform is designed for tasks including drafting, working with documents, generating insights, data analysis, summarisation and translation. Its client portal supports collaboration and document exchange within the same platform.

The selection adds to a broader set of AI and legal technology products already in use at the firm, including Harvey, Relativity, Wexler.ai and Cicero. Commercial terms were not disclosed.

Law firm strategy

Global CEO Justin D'Agostino described the rollout as part of a longer-term technology programme, linking the investment to lawyer training and internal standards for use.

Chief AI Officer Ilona Logvinova said Legora is central to the firm's AI strategy, with collaboration features a key factor in the selection.

Client delivery

Alongside internal use by lawyers and staff, the planned adoption of the Legora client portal signals a focus on client-facing workflows. The portal will be used for secure collaboration, streamlined file sharing and a "data-enriched document experience". The firm also described "an AI-powered client delivery" through the platform.

The move comes as major law firms continue to formalise governance for generative AI tools and expand beyond pilots. Many are taking a portfolio approach, combining specialist platforms for eDiscovery and document review with general-purpose assistants for drafting and knowledge tasks.

Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer has a dedicated Digital Legal Delivery practice across its regions. The firm describes the group as multidisciplinary, bringing together legal experts, technologists, legal operations professionals and project managers.

In Australia, Director of AI Acceleration Susannah Wilkinson pointed to the firm's longer-running work with AI and the integration of new tools into a broader operating model.

Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer was formed in June 2025 through the combination of Herbert Smith Freehills and Kramer Levin. The firm has 2,700 lawyers across 26 offices. The Legora deployment will roll out in phases across the business.
