The filter system has been significantly improved:

  • multiPage has been removed entirely from the specification as it is no longer required.
  • Filtering now resides within the table of contents as a toggle (mobile and desktop).
  • The layout and visibility of the checkboxes has been significantly improved.
  • Navigation between the TOC and filters can be better achieved using keyboard alone.
  • A reset button has been added at the base of the filter options for convenience.
  • The table of contents updates when filters are applied to reflect your choices.
  • An Artifician Intelligence (AI) tag has been added to categories with content tagged.
    • Relationship to Ethical Principles for Web Machine Learning has been added to 1.5 (Relationships).
  • We now have query parameters in the URL when filters are applied so filtering options can be bookmarked/shared.

This should be a major improvement in terms of visibility, convenience, and readability for the document. Enjoy!

Note: This update also corrects attribution for Rose Newell, providing her with the editor status and attributing Alexander Dawson as Lead Editor (for details, see the Q3 release notes.)

@AlexDawsonUK Filtering seems really impressive, thank you so much.

I would like you to consider adding some "affordance" so that user can see the changes at the content more quickly, more easily.

For example, in case of How to Meet WCAG (Quick Reference), right side of the screen slightly flashes yellow, every time user changes any filtering setting at the left side of the panel.
