it's always tragic when fandom universally decides one member of the m/m ship du jour is The Top and the other is The Bottom. like first of all i need a nutritiously balanced diet. you're giving me yaoi scurvy. but it's doubly tragic when, if we accept this hypothetical world without switches, they're wrong about who would be topping whom

people have started misinterpreting me in the notes so to clarify: i'm not complaining about individual authors writing characters with preferences about what sex acts they want to perform. i'm saying when there is an obvious consensus across dozens of different fic authors that they are having penetrative sex and one guy always tops and one guy always bottoms based on nothing but vibes, that doesn't happen in a vacuum and often betrays a certain reading of the characters that i sometimes disagree with. anyway thank you all for enjoying the phrase "yaoi scurvy" i'm very proud of it

to be honest, i only personally care about plotholes when they appear in writing i already have a bunch of other problems with. if i like something enough, i'll give it a pass/invent an explanation in my head. i can't find the exact quote, but roger ebert said something about this. to paraphrase: "the movie's problem wasn't [such and such inconsistency], its problem was that i was bored enough to be thinking about that."

this was so fun to write but took *research*. first i was scouring through the notes of some tumblr post what the best scholarly/academic insults are, and then i had to seriously think about how Helena would insult someone, because ofc she doesn’t just call someone an asshole. and i still think “this invertebrate masquerading as a research scientist” is a+++++. i love Helena being mad as hell because she’s usually so calm lmao.

she can have a little murder, as a treat <3
