you can’t build a world where no one ever gets hurt.

but you can build a world that does not actively necessitate harm for any reason.

And you can build a world where, when people do get hurt anyways, there are as few barriers between them and a full and well-supported recovery as possible.

To be capable of this, you must be willing to believe that a better world is possible, and you must be willing to accept that it will look much different than the world we live in now.

And you must realize that we cannot create this world by leaving people behind.

The entire world, yes, everyone, can be effectively guaranteed a baseline quality of life. Food, water, electricity, shelter, peace and room for comfort, time to participate in culture, time to rest. None of these necessarily have to come at the expense of anyone else’s access to these things, and the systems that make it otherwise are social constructs that can be replaced.

And to do that, we cannot let the people who benefit most from the cruelty of current systems (the ultra-wealthy, clearly) stand in the way of these changes. A few people losing access to a life of extreme excess luxury for the sake of a world that will not only allow them plenty of luxury even still, but guarantee that even they get a dignified minimum of security and comfort should they somehow lose access to their remaining wealth? I think they can settle for a life of slightly more imaginable luxury.

Or, if they choose to stand by and reinforce cruel, exploitative systems at the societal level for personal gain, then we can treat them like the enemies of humanity that they’re clearly comfortable acting as.

The math has been done, by people smarter than you and smarter than me. There’s enough food for everyone, enough room for everyone to live. Ways to build cities and transit that contribute minimally to pollution, that move enough people fast enough that it all keeps moving.

The science is there, it’s all possible.

So why wait for permission from the people who already have more money than any one person could ever reasonably spend? Who will, when the wealth is redistributed, still have genuinely way more than enough money to live good off of anyways?

Why wait for the legislators they lobby to give you permission to exist?

Undermine the systems that demand cruelty of you. Undermine the ideas that justify it. Don’t comply.

Choose love.
