i think claiming that endogenic plurality and traumagenic plurality are separate mechanisms is kinda a silly thing to claim without evidence.

i think they're the same mechanism used in different ways (like how people can hallucinate from medications and mental illness but also induce them through choice and willpower, it's part of how tulpamancy works), unless you have proof that they're actually two separate phenomena in the brain, in which case: PLEASE for the love of GOD show any proof we're lacking in that research department comparing the experiences and if you have some i'd love to read it

pro-willo-miku

we're also technically mixed origins with a few different -genic labels and so it's annoying to see people claim "traumagenic multiplicity is COMPLETELY separate from endogenic plurality they function ENTIRELY DIFFERENTLY they are NOT the same"

then how do mixed origin systems exist? especially when different alters/parts/headmates/system members can have different origins but function basically the same? with no distinction? are you gonna claim that we can't exist? because you decided to draw a line in the sand that doesn't actually distinguish anything?

again, if you have proof besides "the TOSD* doesn't fit for endogenic systems" do show, but it's just claims made by people who don't know how the brain works. i won't say that i'm perfectly correct either, i could be entirely wrong! but that's why i'm asking for evidence to the contrary.

(*i have issues with the TOSD and its assumptions so thats like quoting the bible to disprove atheism imo i dont care what the bible says and i don't see the TOSD as the end-all-be-all of what could cause traumagenic plurality and DID/OSDD)

another anti endos influx of people who have been here for maybe 5 seconds and act like they know everything. here's your rundown of how things are done in Tumblr syscourse:

  • endogenics are fine
  • they don't claim to have DID with no trauma
  • seriously they don't. I don't know where you got the whole "they're faking a trauma disorder with no trauma"
  • if someone is faking something, typically they will preface it with claiming the thing they're faking. if you don't see a CDD anywhere on their blog, probably they're not claiming to have one
  • everyone and their mother knows that CDDs are trauma-based
  • learn how to be open minded
  • if you're in the "syscourse" tag, no one looks at your DNI and it's effectively null for the tag. the tag you want to be using is "tw syscourse" or something like that
  • you can disagree and not be an ass
  • fakeclaiming is being an ass
  • telling someone they don't exist is being an ass
  • telling someone you know their experiences better than them is being an ass
  • don't be an ass
  • don't complain when you're being an ass and someone tells you that. it's not proof of endos harassing you
  • drink water
  • eat a snack
  • get some sunlight and some fresh air. opening your windows and sitting on the porch counts
  • maybe look at a bug. bugs are great
  • seriously don't be an ass

Having symptoms of a disorder or experiences that are similar to a symptom of a disorder without meeting the full criteria for a disorder isn't ableism. It's just life. Mental disorders are simply exaggerated pathological versions of normal human experiences. The brain isn't magically tapping in to experiences that can't exist in any form otherwise when you have a disorder simply making something that would have existed in some form in your life a bigger and more important part of your life that you struggle with.

Even the theory of structural dissociation states that in singlets parts still exist and switch between each other(thats how you get work self, home self, fight/flight responses. It's just different parts being active at different times) they are just integrated enough that your parts don't typically have much effect on your identity and still feel like you. But having parts that switch and have characteristics that are notably different from each other is a normal human experience outside of the disorder and is not a slight against people with the disorder. If there weren't non-disordered things that presented similar to the disorder ever there would never need to be an any exclusion criteria in the criteria in the first place.

Hot take but rigid divisions between queer identities and heavily-policed labels that are treated like diagnoses are really, really bad.

Trans men have shared histories with lesbians who have shared histories with bisexual women who have shared histories with ace people who have shared histories with aro people have shared histories with gay men who have shared histories with trans women who have shared histories with nonbinary people who have shared histories with etc etc etc etc etc.

Labels are important for people who want them, but we need to stop treating sexuality and gender as rigid boxes and checklists.

As a guide:

{pro} endos think that since plurality is an identity, saying you must fit certain requirements- usually suffering- to be plural is like saying you must experience constant dysphoria to be trans.

Anti-endos think that since CDDs are disorders {and are the only way to be plural}, people who claim to be plural without a CDD are like people who claim that they're "so OCD" for liking their pencils to be arranged by colour order.

You are arguing different things. This argument can never be solved, because you're talking past each other.

"you cannot have a category of person that stops being a person or everyone that someone wants to get rid of is going to end up being put in that category" and other really fucking obvious and basic observations that everyone ignores in favor of putting people they want to get rid of into a category they think makes them stop being a person

If you give this woman money, it will go to transphobic causes. If you give this woman a platform, she will use it to boost transphobic causes. This isn't a "well nobody's perfect" or "well x other creator also did something bad once" situation, this is an inordinate amount of influence for a creator to have, and supporting her by word or wallet actively hurts trans people.

This post is going around again, and people are pointing out it's two years old, which is true. In that time she has gotten exponentially worse. Please, drop her and everything she has ever touched for the good of your trans friends.

Do.not.give.her.your.money.

That doesn't mean you have to give up Harry Potter at all. Read it, enjoy the audio books, have fun watching the movies, and discover your otps in all the AU -verses out there. Just, don't give her money. Pirate it, borrow it, copy it. Take a moment to find out how to get it without paying for it.

You are allowed to enjoy Harry Potter. But please do so in a way that is not harming others.

battlecrazed-axe-mage

No. Stop giving it oxygen. Read and make fanworks for different books. There is nothing so singularly exceptional about Harry Potter that you cannot scratch that AU itch in a different piece of media that's NOT contributing to the oppression of trans people.

I know that it feels like a value-neutral act to write your Marauders coffee-and-flower-shop AU, but your attention and engagement contribute to its continued existence too.

Anonymous asked:

Hey dude, I know this is a thing I should say off anon, but I don't want the flood of hatemail. As a Transman myself, I consume fanfiction of Harry Potter. As an adult I see the antisemitism, and recognize how horrible the narrative treatment of SPEW really was. But I drew something positive from it, as did many. I don't want to give money to JK, but I want to support people writing trans inclusive HP fics. They're here, and they're wonderful. JK doesn't get to take them from me.

battlecrazed-axe-mage answered:

I understand that–several people have told me almost that exact story today. Unfortunately, and I mean this as kindly as possible: that doesn’t count for a whole lot when JKR is using her platform, which she continues to have because people continue to engage with her stories and the extended universes thereof, to systematically destroy the rights of trans people in the UK. That’s the bottom line. There’s no only supporting the trans people writing HP content with supporting JKR because it all goes to the same place in the end, in cultural influence if not in cash.

I am JUST saying, if you regularly consume Harry Potter content, you literally cannot be all “fuck terfs, terfs dni” because bestie you are the one interacting with the terf, idc if its all 100% fan-made content or you pirated it, it’s still got terf stink on it

battlecrazed-axe-mage

image

I mean…yeah? That is pretty much exactly my thesis statement here. Where did I lose you

battlecrazed-axe-mage

Literally you cannot consume her content without her and her ilk assuming you support them but are ~too afraid~ to say it

Like I cannot be any more clear about this. My notes are full of people saying “well I don’t support her financially” or “Harry Potter helped me when I was younger” or simply “I don’t think I’m contributing to a problem as long as I only consume fanworks” and I’m sorry, you cannot talk your way out of this one. Engaging with Harry Potter is actively harming trans people, end of

fandomsandfeminism

If nothing else, the fact that HP still has an active fan base, writing fiction, posting fan art, selling merchandise on etsy, even if it no way directly puts money in JKRs pocket- it still gives her clout. Influence. A platform. When she tweets something, it’s news. Every transphobic twitter-tantrum generates articles on polygon and thrillist and ew and yahoo news. A still active fanbase is a signal to investors that her new anti-semitic train wreck of a video game should get green lit, that another fantastic beasts movie should get written. That there’s still enough interest in her IP to put money towards more of it.

It keeps her relevant in a way that she doesn’t deserve to be, and she’s using that relevancy as a weapon against trans folks in the UK.

korrasera

Also, to just put a really fine point on it…

JK Rowling is fairly extraordinary case in that there’s no real way to separate the art from the artist. That just hasn’t been the case in the past, not anywhere at this scale.

The OP’s point can’t be taken as a blanket statement. You aren’t evil for enjoying certain kinds of art. You aren’t a transphobe for enjoying the work of someone who’s transphobic. Art doesn’t work that way, people don’t work that way.

But JK Rowling is a powerful figure. Powerful economically, socially, and most importantly right now, politically. And the characters she created are currently leashed to that power. She uses that power to spread her bigotry and directly influence politics to abuse us.

You aren’t a transphobe just because you enjoy art created by someone who is transphobic…but when you support Harry Potter, you’re supporting a transphobe who works very hard to support other bigots. JK Rowling has really given TERFs a shot in the arm and supporting her work means supporting them.

It sucks. It’s the world we live in, where everything is commodified and the bigger someone gets the less you can divorce what they create from what they do.

We can’t start healing while the knife is still in the wound.
