saw a video that was like “everybody comment what you did today so we can see how everyone experienced something different” and the comments have me tearing up on this train. what the fuckkkk. the human experience
I made a more robust screen for the basement window since Goob has gotten too good at pulling out the other one. And since this one is outside, they now have access to the sill.
Four of them got in there at once. Frank opted not to try. There’s a whole other window that’s already been open. But they all need to be in this one. Goob has been watching my progress all day, mad that she wasn’t invited to the DIY party.
This was my view today as the announcement was made that Artemis II had passed the previous Apollo record to become the furthest humans from Earth. Kiddo came out the door from occupational therapy just moments later as I was tearing up and I explained to the therapist that I was having Space Feelings 😍😭. We celebrated for a moment and it was kind of nice to share that with someone.
It just occurred to me today that First Contact occurs in 2063, which is also the year of Doctor Who's 100th Anniversary.
So, we're gonna have a big ass geek fest that year, right?
Can we all promise to be there? To not give up. Because we have a big freaking party to look forward to.
For everyone fretting that they’ll be too old to enjoy it… There’s no such thing!
I’ll be 82.
We’ll have rocking chairs for the Old Fans and we’ll regale the youngsters with tales of when this episode or that movie first came out. What it was like on ff.n and the beginning of AO3. And how we watched science fiction become reality in unexpected ways. We’ll share pics and vids from conventions and talk about our mutuals on Ye Olde Tumblr.
It is going to be amazing.
So don’t give up, OK? We’re going to survive. And we’ll keep each other going.
See you there!
Kiddo (13yo) playing Doom for the first time.
I’m remembering more of the game than I expected. I helped them find secret doors. They are aware that I know cheat codes (some still memorized even) and they could easily find them online, but choosing to play without them on their first pass thru the game.
As the other parent said: “One of the only kids this age developing eventual nostalgia for the early 90s.”
Immediately after this, kiddo pulled out the usb Nintendo controller they got for their birthday to play original Mario with the “correct” controller via pc emulator.
Both of these on my parents’ old HP laptop that kiddo has been resurrecting from nearly unusable to a fairly healthy state.
Honestly I have no idea what variety of human I’m raising here, but I love their energy and passion for mashing up different eras of tech.
As I was breaking in my Imbolc oracle deck, Henry got up in my business and I handed him a card. It was so absolutely perfect for him, my kiddo (13yo) asked me to pull cards for all five cats.
Here are their results…
Franklin
About Frank: Retired street tom, former Tom Cat Fight Club champion. Frank is settling into the cushy indoor life and enjoying most of it. Except the fact that he has to share it with other cats. He knows the sound of tomato sauce cans being opened (as opposed to any other can) and it’s his favorite thing in the world — aside from thick plushie blankets. He never knew life could be this easy.
Card: Antlers
Keywords: receiving gifts, once in a lifetime, you are enough
Description: Seeing a white stag is said to be an incredible gift that brings an omen of good fortune for those lucky enough to receive this incredible sight. Receiving the Antlers card is likewise a wonderful gift to remind you that if something is being offered to you it is because you’re worthy of receiving it. You have the right to accept every good thing you experience without needing to diminish it. In fact, it is considered poor taste to turn gifts down in many cultures, so imagine how someone might feel if you disagreed with the compliment they’ve given you or you said ‘No’ to something offered in genuine kindness.
