I live in the US and one of the things that really reframed the way I think about animals was when someone I knew in Brazil posted a picture of a marmoset hanging out outside their window and I realized that monkeys were to them what squirrels are to me. Recently a friend in Hungary sent a picture they took at the zoo of a raccoon and it was like my worldview was being shifted all over again because what was to me the mildly annoying, somewhat cute, critter that makes weird noises behind my house at night was a wonder to someone else. They have little hands and bandit masks. They wash their little hands. How is that NOT a wonder? All animals are cool I’m just used to raccoons.

My personal hc is that Sokka was expected and borderline raised to be the next chief, not because of the status of his father, but because he was already displaying his propensity for creative problem solving at a young age. In the earth kingdom this would’ve gotten him a spot at a university, in the water tribe it got him lessons on leadership and WHEN to think outside the box.

It wasn’t so much “you’ll definitely be the next chief” as “you could be a really great leader if you got a little more wisdom and pulled your head out of your ass”. Which he did, and we already see him starting to do during the original show - he’s got a pretty significant leadership role during Day of Black Sun.

I'm literally still so mad that Marvel introduced RJ, a kid groomed by Hydra to become a twisted version of Bucky, a child soldier for Hydra, who was then taken in by Bucky Barnes and Sharon Carter before he ran away again to try and kill his former handler, and that's the last we've ever seen of him. He's such a compelling character!!!! If Marvel was smart they would have partnered him with Aaron Fischer.....but alas.

Yeah as enjoyable as Dana is, I’m just straight up not sure there’s that much room for her in the story at this point. Tim has pretty firmly been under the list of Bruce’s kids for awhile now, and is now on the point where he’s living on his own. A surprise return/custody battle just doesn’t feel like it would have that many consequences.

while the United States in particular has visibly had more Ashkenazi representation (because that’s the majority of American Jews), saying things like this isn’t the way to uplift Mizrahim and Sephardim. the entirety of am yisrael, the Jewish people, is linked.

i think many of the posts protesting the age verification update are kind of missing the point and protesting the wrong thing

this update fucking sucks. im not defending it. but tumblr is never going to roll back on it because it would cause a legal nightmare for them when theyre already losing money. the alternative here is that they make it so people in the uk and brazil just cannot access the website.

i think what would be more productive is instead spreading resources on how to protest governments against these laws, and to spread resources on how to get around it (e.g. trustworthy free vpns. i personally use the free version of proton vpn)

another thing to protest would be how it's being implemented in addition to tumblrs shitty system to flag mature content

something steam does to prove you're over 18 is allow you to add a credit card as a payment method (you don't have to buy anything with it, it just has to be saved to your account). this still sucks but, to me at least, it feels far more reasonable than giving your id.

demanding they go back on it just isnt reasonable. this is something beyond tumblr.

It's not just TV, either. They also seem to have access to video games that railroad you into being gay and have female characters that without make up and perfectly symmetrical faces.

I think some of the loneliness of autism is that you feel like you hurt people just by Interacting Wrong, but you don’t know how to Interact Right, and the more effort you put into it, the more exhausted you are and the more artificial it comes across (with the end result of people still being upset with you). and it’s not anyone’s fault for not liking Being Interacted With Wrong, and it’s not your fault for doing it so wrong, but it is very, very lonely.

Like they tried to change Reblogs and people rightfully got up in arms, this is a LOT worse. In order to have access to any sort of thing dubbed mature, and We haveALL seen what they think is mature, Everything from a black and white photo of a black woman's arm, to posts about IUD recalls, to a nude painted by a 17th century artist, to anything involving the word Trans; you have to send your personal information to a third party site that WILL get hacked, and you will be doxxed. And they can say "Oh shit, well it wasn't us who sent your name address and gender identity to Moldovan teenagers, here's a couple extra minutes in the ball pit.

That's bad enough!!!!!!!! But the entire idea of needing permission from state authorities to access anything labeled mature by our friendly AI overlords is some fucking Boll shit. Die Gedenken Sind Frie baby. This is all a reaction to people getting uppity about their lowly lowly rights and is being propped up by the same bad actors tht have made life unlivable. Fuck that shit.
