supernatural is more concerned than like pretty much any show i have ever seen with how its own story is Perceived and Beholden like everything it does is a bizarre crosshatch of polarised audience interests and it continually lampoons the very concept of a fan onscreen and every so often dean winchester like sometimes-literally turns directly to the camera and says "Is it inherently unethical for you to perceive this story as it's told? are you taking a sick pleasure in the tragedy of our lives? do you, the very audience, have blood on your hands as you transmute my lived trauma into some romcom in your self-indulgent sandbox?" and then they never address it again. look, scooby doo!
