Good Omens, Aziraphale/Crowley (Rated E, 4.7K)

Shhhshhh, listen. Listen. Alright… Listen,” Crowley hears himself babble, his mouth taking over while his mind short circuits in panic. Shushing is hardly necessary. Aziraphale is staring up at Crowley with his mouth hanging open, no sound coming out. He's unfairly gorgeous in the golden lamplight, cocooned by ridiculous tartan sheets and far too many throw pillows. All glowing and pink in the face from their earlier exertions leading up to that sad, deflated balloon of a conclusion. After an agonising beat, Aziraphale snaps his jaw shut and offers Crowley an impossibly gentle smile. “I'm all ears, my dear,” he murmurs. There’s that blasted gentleness again. It's all somehow worse than if he were upset.

Aziraphale and Crowley's first time in bed together goes about as smoothly as the rest of their relationship.

(They get there eventually.)

Features: bad sex (it gets better), bad puns (those do not improve), and emotional overwhelm.

Featured Fic #26: coffee, theoretically

Today's featured fic is "coffee, theoretically" by @eefaevie

----------------------- Read on ao3 ---------------------

Aziraphale leaves the meeting with The Metatron feeling quite strange. He knows, on some level, what they discussed. There was something about a promotion. Something very important about Crowley. Unfortunately, he finds that he has difficulty thinking about any of it on account of whatever it is that’s going on with his corporation.

It isn’t exactly the usual jitters that accompany coffee consumption; he’s all too familiar with those. It’s one of the many reasons he favours tea, after all. This is a different sensation entirely—something burrowing deep in the centre of himself, roiling and turbulent and hungry.

-------------------------- Read more on ao3 -------------------------

We encourage readers to engage with the fic as well. Comments are always appreciated, and we hope to foster a greater sense of interaction in the community.

Here are some ideas if you don't know where to begin:

What was your favorite moment? Was there a character, scene, or line that made you laugh? Smile? Cry? Did you connect with the author's style? Love the dialogue? The action?

Short comments are okay too! It's totally fine to just say that you liked the fic, to leave a keysmash of emotion, or even an emoji. Comments are always appreciated!

I'm a fandom oldie and a strong proponent of "ship and let ship", and I defend everyone else's right to ship what they love... But I think that gives people the idea that I like, automatically love every single ship??? Or every single trope?

I don't though!

There are a lot of fandom tropes that are on my "absolutely fuck no" list. There are a lot of irk kinks that are also on my "nope absolutely not" list, too. Personally, this is healthy. I'm able to look at something and go "Yep, I hate it, but it's not harming anyone, so continue to do as you please."

I think this is where the rubber meets the road for actually having principles. It’s easy to defend the things we like, just like it’s easy to fight for our own rights and those of people just like us. When you have to use logic to extend your sense of justice to people you can’t relate to, that actually takes effort.

Avatar

I don't have the citation but I remember seeing one of the AO3 founders say something like "when we sat down to discuss what would be allowed on AO3, we started by thinking about what tropes/kinks/etc we would never in a million years read ourselves, we came up with the ickiest oh-fuck-no fic concept we could imagine, and we agreed together that we were building a site where That Fic would be allowed to exist alongside all the others".

To my mind that's the same principle, and it's worth challenging your own sense of disgust that way -- asking yourself, in that case, if I'm really anti-censorship am I willing to stand against the censorship of something that disgusts me? If I'm really in favor of human rights, am I willing to stand for the basic rights of the most loathsome human being I'll ever meet? How far does "universal, basic, fundamental" really go? Do I actually believe in these things across the board?

It was a nice day. All the days had been nice. There had been rather more than seven of them so far, and rain hadn't been invented yet...

Now that @di-42’s Winter Bang fic is complete and the new @gosummerbang has been announced, I thought why not post a roundup of the art I made for The Solstice Dinner!

This was my first bang and it was such a hoot! I was so lucky to get my first pick story and get paired with Di (who fyi is an absolute joy to work with) for this funny and sweet Gilmore Girls inspired AU. Everyone in the art chat was so helpful and supportive with each other, the mods/organizers are super responsive and damn, it was just great!

I’ll be doing the summer bang and highly recommend it if you’re keen. Sign ups for the summer iteration have just opened, get around it!

good omens fic rec || and that will never change by @quitequaintrelle 🎀

Crowley takes the offered hand in his. He rotates it so it’s palm up. Slides two fingers underneath the leather glove, lifting the edge to reveal a snatch of pale wrist. Stroking the skin with his thumb, he follows the blue veins down until they disappear beneath the frilled shirt sleeve. He’d like to trace that lifeline with his tongue. Unfortunately, there's propriety to consider. Crowley peels the glove back and sneaks a chaste kiss on the heart of the man’s palm. There—the faint rustle of a long, trembling breath.

Good Omens, Aziraphale/Crowley (Rated E, 4.9K)

Aziraphale has the gall to laugh between all those maddening groans of his, kicking his hips forward pointedly, his index finger twirling around a lock of Crowley’s hair. “Darling, please.” “Working on it,” Crowley growls. Buttons have become the bane of his existence in their retirement. Trousers. Waistcoats. Various collared shirts, fastenings running down the front and taunting him from their snug place at the wrist. Tortoiseshell, mother-of-pearl, fabric-covered—all of them are Crowley's arch nemeses. Aziraphale would probably don undergarments with a hundred fussy little buttons if he could get away with it, like… like some kind of chastity belt designed specifically to fuck with Crowley's welfare. The final button successfully freed, Crowley practically hoots with triumph. That's when something hits him square on the crown of his head, bouncing off to land on the ground next to him—an apple, glossy and red.

Aziraphale and Crowley adjust to a new arrival at their cottage.

--------

Features: meddlesome buttons, an even more meddlesome apple tree, Crowley getting manhandled (funny), and Crowley getting manhandled (sexy).

Saying “this niche, properly tagged, warned, and rated piece of fiction could theoretically hurt someone” is not a good argument. This properly labeled cookie with the allergen information at the bottom that contains gluten could theoretically harm me very badly, but only if I consume it. Tags are like nutrition labels, and warnings are like allergy information. If you know you have an allergy to something, the logic is to stay away from it. It is the same with fiction. I’m not running through stores yelling at people to take all the products with gluten off the shelves just because it could hurt me. Instead I ignore it and go to the gluten free section and find cookies that are right for me. And if running through a grocery store yelling sounds ridiculous, that’s because it is. Stop doing the same with fiction.

this is the best way i’ve seen this put!!

And just like with food, what might be harmful for one person to consume could be quite *beneficial* for others. One man’s trigger is another man’s catharsis.
